MGN Promotes Carter To Fill Ad Director’s Shoes

Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) has promoted deputy director of advertising, Dominic Carter, to the position of director of advertising following the departure of Clare Dove from the role after just 14 months, overseeing ad sales for the company’s most high profile titles.

The promotion will see 39-year old Carter take responsibility for the ad sales operations of the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People, reporting directly to Ellis Watson, MGN’s managing director of national newspapers.

Carter originally joined MGN in 2000 as head of client services, before becoming display advertising director in 2002. He was promoted to deputy director of advertising last April. Amongst his other achievements, Carter was responsible for setting up the sponsorship sales division of Times Newspapers Ltd before moving on to MGN.

Commenting on the promotion, Ellis Watson said: “Dominic is an immensely talented newspaper executive who enjoys great respect both within the company and throughout the industry. MGN Advertising is already a formidable team and with Dominic at the helm I know we can look forward to even greater success in the future.”

Carter added: “I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to lead what I believe is the best ad sales team in Fleet Street.”

The advertising boss will take up his new position immediately, following Clare Dove’s departure to pursue fresh opportunities elsewhere.

Trinity mirror recently launched its 40th newspaper title in the Midlands, with the Kenilworth Citizen reaching over 9,000 homes in the Kenilworth area. The free paper will be published by Coventry Newspapers Ltd, and achieve penetration of 87% of homes, allowing advertisers to reach a lucrative market in which 71% of adults are in the ABC1 socio-economic group (see Trinity Mirror Launches 40th Midlands Newspaper).
