Mobile Internet Revenues Set To Surge

With the proliferation of next generation networks and the wider availability of faster and smarter devices, it is estimated that the North American mobile internet access market will be worth $2.7 billion this year.

Technology researchers at Frost and Sullivan believe that the mobile data industry will undergo rapid growth in the next few years and revenues are projected to reach $24.8 billion in 2008.

At present, only messaging and email are regarded as killer applications but entertainment services, infotainment and corporate Intranet access are attracting an increasing number of subscribers. Frost & Sullivan suggests that successful operators will be those who can offer quality content as well as advanced technology phones and services.

“Network operators will need to focus on developing strategic alliances through revenue-sharing agreements with leading content developers,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Kshitij Moghe.
