MPG Signs Craze As Investment Programme Takes Off

Mark Craze And Marc Mendoza The Media Planning Group (MPG) has appointed former Aegis CEO, Mark Craze, to work alongside current CEO, Marc Mendoza, in the first move of a “heavyweight investment programme,” designed to propel the company and spur its growth in the UK.

Craze, who was CEO of Aegis Media UK until April 2004, will take up his new position with MPG on 1st July, working with Mendoza on the company’s new three-year growth plan. The move will lead to a “fundamental step change” at MPG, with each taking on the newly created role of managing partner.

The management split will see Mendoza concentrate on operations, client service and existing clients, while Craze will focus on strategy, implementing the development plan, new business and additional services.

The pair will run MPG’s London-based operations with a total turnover of over £170 million, comprising agency Media Planning, with billings of around £100 million; as well as interactive agency Media Contacts and UK-based Media Planning International.

Fernando Rodes, Global CEO of MPG, said: “MPG is delighted to launch this substantial investment programme in the UK and hiring Mark sends an important signal to the market. We are focused and committed to growing our UK business and I am delighted to have recruited someone with Mark’s experience and reputation. His entrepreneurial, fast-moving style will flourish within our culture. I am sure Mark and Marc will make an irresistible team.”

Mendoza added: “Attracting someone of Mark’s calibre is exciting both personally and professionally. We share a strong ambition to develop our business as a matter of priority and this is the first of several important changes. We have a great team and will be looking to add more top talent in the UK market.”

Craze left Aegis Media UK last year, ending a 15-year career with the company after joining as managing director. He subsequently became chief executive of Carat Group and was then promoted to the top role at Aegis Media UK & Ireland, where he oversaw the Carat and Vizeum media networks (see Craze Steps Down From Aegis After Fifteen Years).

Commenting on his latest move, the agency boss said: “Working with talented people who have the passion and vision to build businesses is highly motivational. I am delighted to have found such a kindred spirit within MPG. The heavy investment behind our three-year plan will give us the resources to build a truly world class agency in London.”
