Carat has appointed acting managing director Neil Jones as the company’s new managing director, filling the shoes of Colin Mills, who left the post earlier this year with no new role to go to.

Mills’ departure ended an 11 year tenure at the company, six of which were spent as managing director following the departure of Mark Craze in 1998.

Jones’ appointment as managing director was made permanent following a lengthy selection process involving both internal and external candidates over two months.

The 40-year old media boss was previously commercial director at Carat, joining the company in 1991 from rival Zenith Media. His new role will see him working on Carat’s newly-won COI Communications TV account, as well as working to create a more integrated company as a whole.

Commenting on the appointment, Nigel Sharrocks, chief executive of Carat’s parent company, Aegis Media, said: “The Carat job is one of the best, if not the best, in media. For both the clients and the people here, I wanted to assess all the options and hire the best person. It’s always best if you can promote within your company and clients who had worked with Neil thought that he was fantastic.”
