Netflix arrives on Freesat

From today (Tuesday) Freesat customers with Humax Freetime set-top boxes will have access to popular shows such as House of Cards, Breaking Bad and Orange Is The New Black with the arrival of Netflix.

The subscription VOD service joins more than 200 subscription-free channels already on offer from Freesat, which this year added 25,000 new homes to reach 1.9 million.

“We have opened up the pay TV market even further by providing effortless access to a highly popular TV service to our consumers,” said Graham North, commercial director of Humax.

“Adding Netflix will provide a simple way for viewers to seamlessly switch between their favourite subscription-free programmes, on-demand content and a rich variety of high quality films and documentaries.”

In 2015, Freetime customer growth was up 60% year on year, with more than four million viewers tuning in to Freesat each week.

Paul Gilshan, marketing director of Freesat said: “Freesat already offers great choice, and with the launch of Netflix that choice is getting bigger and better.

“It is the perfect complement to free television and demonstrates a commitment to our viewers to provide fantastic TV for the best value.”
