Endemol, the production company behind Big Brother, has named Elias Rodriguez-Vina Cancio as its new chief executive officer and chairman, following last weeks resignation of Joaquim Agut Bonsfills.
Tom Barnicoat, chief operating officer and a former head of Endemol’s UK operation, had been tipped to take on the role (see
Endemol Chief Exec Quits Amid Takeover Speculation).
Bonsfills had been handed the chief executive job by Endemol’s parent company Telefonica two-and-a-half years ago and his resignation sparked renewed takeover speculation concerning the company.
Rodriguez-Vina comes from Telefonica S.A., where he was responsible for the Group’s non-core subsidiaries. Before that he was chief financial officer of Terra Lycos and has worked for companies such as Arthur Andersen, General Electric and UBS.
