News International has applied for the name Fabulous to be a registered trademark in the print and electronic publication category, fuelling speculation that the revamped News Of The World magazine will take on the name.
The planned revamp of the magazine will see the title move into a more upmarket space according to reports (see News Of The World Magazine Gets Revamp).
News Of The World deputy editor Jane Johnson – also the magazine’s editorial director – is in charge of the overhaul.
The latest ABC figures, for August this year, show that the News Of The World had a total circulation of more than 3.3 million copies (see ABC National Newspaper Round-Up: August 2007) giving the magazine a higher circulation than other women’s magazines (see ABC Results Jan-Jun 2007: Take A Break Stays Top Of Women’s Weeklies Amidst Sizeable Declines).
Mandy Appleyard, a contributing editor of Emap’s First, Closer and Grazia has already been hired by Johnson, as editor of the Sunday magazine.
Sally Eyden, assistant features editor at the Daily Mirror, was appointed earlier this month as deputy editor of the magazine.
Johnson joined in August having been hired in June from Emap, where she launched Closer.
