NOWdigital Launches Two New Radio Stations
The UK’s leading local digital radio company, NOWdigital, has announced the launch of two new local radio stations, with “ourkindofmusic” launching in Essex and across Reading and Basingstoke.
Both stations launch today, broadcasting on DAB Digital Radio, with the Essex station reaching over one million people in the local area and the Reading and Basingstoke one reaching more than 550,000.
The new platforms will play heritage artists such as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald alongside contemporary singers like Jamie Cullum and Diana Krall.
Commenting on the launch, Eddie Blackwell, former chairman of Essex FM said: “There is a real gap for a radio station entirely devoted to what is often described as The Great American Songbook, and with digital radios becoming more popular and inexpensive, now is the time to make it available.”
He continued: “We’ve created what we believe is a unique blend of music, but we are sincerely interested in what local people think so that we can develop the very best mix of this truly classic popular music – with just a touch of jazz.”
According to the latest RAJAR figures, digital stations continue to top the charts in terms of growth, with figures for Q2 2005 showing the BBC and Commercial broadcasters notching up positive growth as sales of DAB radios increase (see RAJAR Results Q2 2005:Digital Leads The Way In National Radio).
