NTL Shakes Up Broadband Net Market With New Service

NTL has launched a high speed broadband internet service priced at the same level as the existing dial-up services available on the market. The company says that the 128 kbps service is now available to 4.7 million homes in the UK for £14.99 per month, via its NTL Home service.

Douglas Alexander, minister for state at the Department for Trade and Industry with responsibility for e-commerce, has welcomed the move, saying: “We are committed to ensuring that more UK consumers should have the opportunity to benefit from fast, always-on, internet access and this is another step towards that goal.”

The price of the service is equivalent to most existing ISP’s dial-up service charge, but will offer twice the speed, will not tie up phone lines and is on continuously.
