Ofcom Appoints New Radio And Multimedia Boss

Tesco TV Screen Media regulator, Ofcom, has appointed Peter Davies, current head of market intelligence, as its new director of radio and multimedia, overseeing the watchdog’s strategy, policies and activities relating to the two mediums across the organisation.

Davies will also lead Ofcom’s radio, multimedia, and media literacy teams in content and standards. The new role will see Davies build on his previous responsibility for Ofcom’s review of radio, which he will continue in his new position.

The review looks at the future of digital radio and the regulation of analogue radio. The first phase of the review was published last December, with the second due to follow later this year (see Ofcom Launches First Stage Of Radio Review).

Commenting on the appointment, Tim Suter, Ofcom partner for content and standards, said: “This new role reflects our recognition of the dynamic nature of radio and I am delighted that Peter has agreed to take it on, bringing with him a wealth of relevant experience across analogue and digital radio and media technology.”

Prior to joining Ofcom, Davies spent nine years at the BBC, with his career culminating in the role of controller for corporate strategy. Amongst his achievements with the BBC are the re-launch of BBC London 94.9 and the shaping of BBC Local Radio’s DAB strategy. He was also involved in developing the strategy for the BBC’s new national digital radio services. During his time at the BBC, Davies was also a member of the Board of RAJAR.
