Panini Plans Marketing Push Following Mizz Purchase

Mizz Cover IPC Media has sold teen title Mizz to youth publisher Panini for an undisclosed sum, with the fortnightly title joining the publisher’s existing portfolio immediately.

Panini UK currently publishes a range of children’s and teen titles, including well known names such as Astonishing Spiderman, Batman Legends and Doctor Who Magazine.

The title will continue to weigh in at 76 pages, featuring the “hottest celebrity gossip, high street fashion, and beauty,” as well as offering real-life content and advice to its audience of 10 to 14 year olds.

Panini now plans to develop the magazine beyond its existing format, pledging to back the acquisition with marketing and retail activity to further strengthen its position.

The title currently commands a circulation of 60,425, its lowest on record since the title launched in 1985, slumping from an all time high of 195,191 in the second half of 1994.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mike Riddell, managing director of Panini UK, said: “Mizz is a major prize for Panini UK and takes us into the exciting area of girls’ teenage lifestyle magazines. We are now firmly established as a leading player in both children’s and teenage magazines with 20 regular titles.”
