Potter Proves His Worth In 3-3 Draw

Chad Potter It was the TV event of the year last night, as MediaTel Group’s very own wizard of the dribble, Chad Potter, pulled on his boots for Sky One’s Premier League All Stars.

The show, which sees legends, celebrities and fans play in a week-long knock-out competition, has a £100,000 prize for the winning club’s nominated charity.

‘Pele’ Potter, MediaTel’s editorial manager, pretty much ran the show for his beloved Derby against a pumped-up Liverpool side. The final score was 3-3, and it seemed quite obvious that some of the ex-pros taking part, such as Liverpool’s Jason ‘Hackateer’, did not want to be embarrassed by the fans turning out for the mighty Rams.

Bearing that in mind, although the match finished as a draw, some might say that in reality it was a moral victory for Derby, who played well and in a spirit one can only describe as Corinthian.

Unfortunately, the draw meant that neither of the teams could progress through to the next round of the tournament, but everyone present agreed that the skill and determination shown by Potter and the rest of his band of merry midlanders will go down in the annals of sporting history as one of the greatest performances in living memory.

The show had a peak audience of 221,000 adult viewers, and it seems as if most of the viewers switched over after the Derby v Liverpool match, perhaps too dazzled by Potter’s expert ball control to concentrate on any more hot soccer action.

Also on last night – but very much playing second fiddle to the football on Sky One – was Silent Witness, which triumphed in the all important 9pm slot, bagging a peak of 5.8 million adult viewers (a 27.5% share of the audience).

Over on BBC Two at the same time was the last episode of what could be the final series of Tribe.

Yesterday’s instalment saw intrepid explorer Bruce Parry head off to Borneo, where he made some good friends and found out about life in a rapidly disappearing environment.

The show had a peak audience of 2.6 million adult viewers (a 12.5% share), whilst an average of 2.5 million adults stuck with it for its hour long running time.

On Five, CSI: Miami performed admirably, picking up a peak of two million adults (a 9.5% share) in the 9pm slot, whilst on ITV1 the illuminating documentary Shoplifters – Caught On Camera – with a peak audience of 3.2 million adults – showed how sophisticated CCTV systems and security experts attempt to catch shoplifters red-handed in some of the UK’s hardest-hit stores.
