Profits Up At Independent News & Media

Independent News & Media has reported an 8.4% rise in UK operating profits for 2007.

The group, which owns the Independent, Independent on Sunday and Belfast Telegraph, saw its operating profit increase to €15.5 million (£12.1 million).

Revenue in the UK increased 18.3% to €268.1 million (£210 million), with advertising growth of 5.5%.

The Independent and the Independent on Sunday titles reported 2.1% advertising growth, while the Belfast Telegraph saw growth of 6.5%.

Overall, Independent News & Media reported a 2.3% rise in revenues in 2007, to €1.7 billion (£1.3 billion).

Sir Anthony O’Reilly, group chief executive officer, said: “The business has traded well through the first three months of 2008, with Group earnings ahead of last year and all regions growing total revenues in constant currency.

“Despite the uncertain economic background, we remain confident that, on the basis of current trading in all our geographies, INM can deliver a further year of earnings growth.”
