Project Launched To Develop Freeview Return Path

Freeview Logo A project has been launched to deliver a broadband return path for Freeview, which would see a greater range of interactive services being launched.

An always on broadband return path would mean that a host of new interactive applications such as games and streamed audio or video could be made available on the platform.

When Freeview was first launched in the UK, the decision was taken not to include a return path, in order to avoid complications.

The return path is to be developed and delivered on the MHEG-5 interactive software which is currently used for digital terrestrial television in the UK.

The project is being co-ordinated by the Digital TV Group (DTG), the UK industry association for digital television.
