Pure To Boost Radio Sales With Advent Calendar

Leading digital radio consortium MXR Digital has brokered a deal with radio manufacturer Pure Digital to give away a seasonal digital radio each day until Christmas Eve, creating what it claims is the first digital advent calendar and aiming to boost sales of digital receivers in the run up to Christmas.

In two separate promotions, from the 1st to the 24th December, 7 of Pure’s best-selling digital radios will be promoted across both UBC Media-owned Classic Gold and Capital Radio’s Capital Gold. The station’s presenters will describe at least 2 features of each product, showcasing Pure’s range of receivers and explaining the advantages of different digital radios.

Commenting on the promotion Diane Wray, MXR’s marketing director said: “MXR has only recently increased its digital marketing support to include UBC and Capital shareholder stations Classic Gold and Capital Gold, and we are delighted that they have both decided to promote DAB digital radios in the important run up to Christmas.”

Kevin Dale, president of Pure Digital added: “We expect this to be an outstanding season for our DAB products and are delighted to have joined forces with MXR on these promotions to help put a few more radios in the stockings of Classic Gold and Capital Gold listeners this Christmas.”

Digital radio manufacturers and operators have pulled out all the stops to boost sales of receivers this christmas, launching digital adapters for analogue hi-fis and producing guides to DAB broadcasts to acquaint new listeners with the technology (see Digital One To Boost DAB Up-Take With Buyer’s Guide).

However, a recent warning from high street retailer Dixons suggests that yuletide shopping may be less fevered than in previous years, with slowing sales putting pressure on profit margins in the traditionally lucrative run up to Christmas (see Slow Down Of Electrical Goods May Hit Sky Subscriptions).
