RAJAR figures for Q3 2009 show that All Commercial radio’s weekly reach remains relatively static year on year, with 31.2 million listeners.
Looking at the national stations, BBC Radio 2 has the highest weekly reach, up by 4.3% year on year to more than 13.6 million listeners, while in the commercial sector Total LBC and Gold Network enjoyed impressive percentage increases.
Focusing on London, Magic 105.4 has the largest weekly reach of all the London stations, although its average hours per listener figure was down 4.8% year on year.
As usual, a lot of commentators will be focusing on who has grabbed the London breakfast show crown and once again that is Johnny Vaughan’s 95.8 Capital Radio breakfast show, with a weekly reach of more than one million listeners. However, in the continued battle for breakfast supremacy, Heart 106.2 FM is gathering pace after an impressive 6.3% year on year increase, which has taken its reach up to 816,000 listeners.
The RAJAR figures also reveal that DAB set ownership is up 14% year on year, with 16.6 million adults aged 15+ (32.3%) now claiming to live in a household which has a DAB receiver.
DAB listening now commands a 13.3% share of all radio listening, up 18% year on year.
