Set Top Box Shortage Threatens To Delay Sky HD

TV Festival Logo The smooth roll out of Sky’s high definition service has been thrown into doubt, with rumours circulating that a shortage of set top boxes will leave some early adopters unable to enjoy Monday’s launch.

Those customers scheduled for installation in the first couple of days should escape the set top box shortage, although viewers slated for later installations could be disappointed.

Earlier this month saw the satellite superpower announce its finalised launch schedule for SkyHD, with Star Wars, 24 and the England test match all in store for those lucky enough to have the system on 22 May (see HD Programmes To Air On Sky From 22nd May).

Programmes such as Rescue Me and Star Trek Enterprise will also be screened in high definition in the first week of operation, while cricket fans will be given their first high definition broadcasts on the 25th, when England face up to Sri Lanka in the 2nd test on Sky Sports HD.
