Sky reports rise in third quarter revenues

Sky has reported a rise in third quarter revenues from £1.25 billion to £1.39 billion, while profits increased from £56 million to £63 million.

The satellite broadcaster said that profits were distorted slightly by impairment charges mainly connected with the reduction in the value of the 17.9% stake in ITV that it bought in 2006 (see ITV Share Price Falls After BSkyB Acquires Stake).

It added 80,000 new customers in the three months to the end of March and also saw 243,000 of its customers take up its high-definition service after cutting its cost. There are now more than 1 million Sky HD households.

According to the latest figures, Sky now reaches more than 9.3m households, with 15% of them taking all three of its services – TV, broadband and home telephony.

However, broadband growth slowed during the quarter, with 130,000 added in the three months to end March. Sky now has just over 2 million broadband users.
