Smooth Secures Seat For Massive Motoring Giveaway

GMG-owned 100.4 Smooth FM and car manufacturer SEAT are set to stage the North West’s biggest ever car give-away, offering 40 listeners the chance to win a new car every weekday for the next two weeks.

The £150,000 competition will begin tomorrow, with Smooth giving away four cars every weekday for two weeks to celebrate the station’s 40th week on air. Each car will come complete with a full tank of petrol each month, and will be handed over in time for Christmas at a special party on 22 December.

Commenting on the promotion, a spokeswoman for Smooth FM said: “This is the biggest competition to hit the airwaves in this region for a long time. The cost of running a car is going up and we wanted to take the stress out of motoring for 40 of our listeners – and what better way of doing that than giving them a fully taxed, insured and fuelled car to use.”

Dominic Elms, SEAT UK’s national business sales manager, added: “SEAT UK really are very excited about this fantastic and unprecedented promotion. We’ve worked hard with the Smooth FM team to put it together and are looking forward to giving 40 lucky smooth fm listeners the opportunity to experience the superb, multi-award winning SEAT Ibiza.”

The promotion follows a ruling from super-regulator Ofcom last week, allowing GMG’s Jazz and Smooth FM stations to broaden their programming to include a range of music, straying away from their original roots in jazz music and increasing their appeal to advertisers (see Jazz FM To Increase Advertiser Appeal With Mixed Playlists).

The lifting of Smooth’s programming restrictions is sure to help the station in attracting a wider audience. The station has seen its listenership dip recently, losing 6.3% year on year in September to command a total of just under 330,000.
