Spikey Joins Bully For Challenge’s Gameshow Revival

Dave Spikey Challenge TV has signed Phoenix Nights star and co-writer Dave Spikey as the new face classic gameshow Bullseye in time for its resurrection next month.

The show, which will return to the air on 17 April, will also feature original icons Tony Green and sidekick Bully, following Challenge’s acquisition of the rights to the show in January (see Challenge Brings Back Bully For Ratings Bullseye).

Welcoming his new role, Spikey described Bullseye as “the best ever TV game show,” stating: “I’m excited, apprehensive and mostly honoured because Bullseye is for me, and millions of people, a special show and a national institution.”

Celia Taylor, deputy controller at Challenge echoed the comedian’s sentiments, stating: “We are delighted Dave Spikey is going to be the new face of Bullseye. He will bring his own original blend of wit and unique style to Bullseye and will be a huge hit with our contestants and viewers.”

The new series will feature some of the biggest names in darts, as well as guest celebrities. However, the new show will struggle to emulate the success of the original due to multi-channel audience fragmentation.

Airing on ITV between 1981 and 1995, in its prime the original Bullseye was watched by as many as 15 million viewers every Sunday evening.
