Starcom Motive Retains £10 Million Kia Account

Starcom Motive has retained the £10 million media planning and buying account for Kia Motors UK, in a move that ends speculation that the business would be put to full agency review.

Kia started informal talks with rival networks following a creative review of its account in November 2003, but has now decided to remain at Starcom Motive. The incumbent creative agency Mustoes also retained the creative account.

Commenting on the win, Will Phipps, a group account director at Starcom Motive, said: “We’ve proved that with a comparatively low car spend we can help drive sales to its best ever level. With increased investment in 2004 and a fantastic range of new model launches we’re confident we can push Kia forward even further.”

Paul Williams, managing director of Kia Motors, added: “Starcom Motive has consistently demonstrated creative and effective media strategy, along with fantastic buying power in a highly competitive market place. We are delighted that the relationship is continuing into its third year.”

Meanwhile, Mother has secured the £5 million brief to develop an integrated advertising campaign for BSkyB’s betting and gambling business, SkyBet, after a competitive pitch involving Philipson Ward Longworth Camponi, HHCL Red Cell and Farm.

The campaign, sheduled to launch sometime later this year, will highlight the added excitement that Sky Digital’s 7.2 million viewers can enjoy while watching live television sport by using their remote control to place a bet with SkyBet (see Sky To Bring Vegas To The Living Room).
