Strictly Come Dancing BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing was the big winner on Saturday evening, picking up a peak of 10.5 million adults (a 50.8% share of the audience) in its 5.30pm timeslot.

An average audience of 9.7 million adults (a 49% share) stuck with the programme for its hour and a half duration.

The X Factor on ITV1 was pretty close, with an average of eight million adults (a 39.1% share) and a peak of nine million (a 42.5% share) at 7pm.

The results show, on at 9.30pm, revealed that Niki would be the latest singer to leave. A peak of 8.5 million adults watched her go out with her head held high.

It was another awesome performance from Rhydian, who now seems set to battle it out with Leon for the chance to win the competition.

After the results show, ITV1 aired The Big Fight Live, which featured another masterclass in pugilism from Amir Khan.

Taking place on his birthday, it was a convincing win for the young fighter. The action had a peak audience of 5.9 million adults (a 26.7% share).

On Sunday at 7pm, BBC Sports Personality Of The Year on BBC One, had a peak of eight million adults (a 31.4% share), with Welsh boxer Joe Calzaghe taking home the accolade.

Following on straight after on the same channel at 9pm was Cranford, which also had a peak of eight million adults.

ITV1’s big offering yesterday was The Royal Variety Performance, which as you can probably infer from the name – if not the event’s great history – featured a variety of showbiz acts performing for the Royals.

A peak of 7.9 million adults (a 33% share) saw acts such as Katherine Jenkins give their all at the prestigious event.
