Telegraph Teams With BMI For Cut-Price Flight Offer

The Daily Telegraph has teamed up with airline bmi to offer readers flights to a range of European destinations for £50 return this winter.

The promotion, which is the latest in a long line of initiatives designed to raise the profile of the Daily Telegraph, launches in the paper on Saturday 25 September with the support of a special Virgin Radio Winning Weekend.

The Virgin Radio Winning Weekend takes place on 25 and 26 September and offers listeners free bmi flights to a range of top European destinations, as well as promoting the Daily Telegraph flight offer through live presenter reads and pre-recorded trails.

Destinations in the promotion include Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Dublin, Madrid and Milan, as well as several UK cities. Those wishing to travel further afield can take advantage of flights to the US from £220 return or the Caribbean from £340 return. To claim the flights readers must collect three out of seven passwords, which will be published in the paper from the launch until October 1.

Commenting on the initiative, Mark Dixon, marketing director at Telegraph Group, said: “Our readers are big travellers, so we are delighted to be able to offer them a strong promotional return fare, which includes taxes.”

The Daily Telegraph recently announced plans to become the third national broadsheet to launch a commuter friendly tabloid edition in the form of a spoof title, dubbed The Daily Splat, to mark the launch of the new Renault Modus car. The 24-page colour tabloid will be distributed with paper on 11 September and will be supported by its own website at www.thedailysplat.co.uk for four months (see Telegraph Planning To Launch Tabloid This Month).

The latest ABC results for the six months to August 2004 reveal a relatively lacklustre performance for the Daily Telegraph, which saw its circulation decline by 1.2% year on year to 913,061. The Sunday Telegraph also suffered a dip during the same period to 701,216 (see ABC National Newspaper Round-Up – August 2004).
