Telewest Buys Eurobell For £200m

Cable group Telewest has announced the extension of its cable network with the acquisition of Eurobell for £200m. The company, owned by Deutsche Telekom, is one of the last independent operators in the UK and supplies telephone, internet, data and cable television services throughout the south of England.

According to latest figures Eurobell had 336,600 franchise homes with more than 281,000 homes passed, 171,000 residential customers and 10,500 business customers. Cable television is taken by 49,459 of these, while 74,642 take telephony across franchises in Crawley, west Kent and Devon and a backbone network across the south-east to London.

Adam Singer, group chief executive said: “Eurobell’s franchise areas fit perfectly with our existing network in southern England, providing us with even more customers in some of the most affluent areas of the country. More exciting still is the addition of Gatwick Airport to our existing coverage of Heathrow. We now have two of the busiest airports in the world, with all the ancillary businesses that go with them, in our franchise area.!
