Telewest Completes On-Demand TV Roll Out

Telewest Teleport Logo Cable giant Telewest will give all of its customers an early Christmas present this year, as it announces the completed roll out of Teleport, its new on-demand TV and film service.

Launching in Yorkshire and west London today, Telewest has now completed its region-by-region launch, cementing its position as Britain’s largest on-demand TV provider.

The broadcaster has also signed a new content deal with Granada International, allowing customers access to more content than ever, including classic series such as Cold Feet, Cracker, Prime Suspect, Darling Buds of May and Rising Damp.

Eric Tveter, president and chief operating officer of Telewest, explained the advantages of the new service, with particular reference to festive broadcasts, stating: “Everyone loves to watch classic TV entertainment over Christmas and our customers will be able to avoid the turkeys by controlling what’s on the box.”

Selected Telewest customers in London will also be able to enjoy high definition broadcasts in the new year, following the company’s launch of HD services to an initial audience of around 400 homes (see Telewest First To Launch HDTV Services).

Video on-demand services look set for massive growth in the coming months, following BSkyB’s acquisition of internet service provider EasyNet, and BT’s creation of its own on-demand platform to supplement the existing Freeview service (see BT Signs First Content Deals For IPTV Service).
