The Independent appoints Greig editor-in-chief
In brief

Geordie Greig has been appointed editor-in-chief of The Independent.

He joins from Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) where he served as editor of the Daily Mail for three years from 2018.

Under Greig, the Mail became Britain’s best-selling newspaper, though Greig was later ousted in November 2021 and replaced by Mail on Sunday editor Ted Verity.

Greig becomes editor-in-chief of the digital-only former print title with immediate effect.

Commenting on his appointment, Greig stated: “I look forward to leading the brilliant editorial team that is successfully making journalism a force for good. Unquestionably, given the world we live in, this has never been more important.”
