The Times Signs Movie Promotion Deal With TCM

The Times has announced a two month cross promotional campaign with film channel TCM, targeting the nation’s film buffs and publicising its Film First screenings of the autumn’s most-anticipated movies.

The promotion will see The Times Film First sponsor TCM’s Thursday Night at The Movies programming strand. As part of the deal, The Times will also provide 50 pairs of tickets for each of its Film First screenings for TCM viewer competitions.

Promotion of the partnership will run in-paper and via The Times’ next Film First DVD, distributed to readers on 4 September. The DVD will allow readers to preview the autumn’s best films, as well as featuring bonus content from TCM and sneak previews of the channel’s September seasons; Style in Motion, celebrating fashion in film and Western Week, featuring an exploration into the first 100 years of the Western.

The newspaper has also extended the number of cinemas at which its Film First screenings are held in a deal with Picturehouse cinemas. The partnership will give The Times more coverage in London, as well as a wider demographic of cinema-goers. The new locations are in addition to the newspaper’s current deal with Vue cinemas.

Commenting on the deals, Katie Vanneck, promotions director at Times Newspapers Ltd, said: “The Times Film First is a successful brand extension and we are always looking for ways to broaden its reach. The partnership with TCM is a great opportunity for us to get brand exposure to a film audience while providing a strong promotional vehicle for our eight autumn Film First screenings.”

Alan Musa, VP and channel manager of TCM added: “We are very excited about working with The Times and Film First. This is an ideal fit for the TCM brand helping us increase awareness to a highly targeted and valuable, film-loving audience.”

Both The Times and TCM are sponsors of The Times BFI London Film Festival, with the newspaper entering its second year as title sponsor and TCM signing on as a sponsor for the fifth year.

Earlier this month The Sunday Times announced a special edition of its entertainment CD-Rom, The Month, to celebrate its first anniversary with exclusive footage from the DVD release of Oasis’ Definitely Maybe. The newspaper claims the interactive suplement draws an average audience of one million users with its preview material of arts and entertainment events (see Sunday Times Celebrates Month Birthday With Oasis Special).
