Thousands Wasting Money On Gadgets

Gizmos Virgin Media has claimed that thousands of people in the UK are wasting money on hi-tech gadgets that they will never learn how to actually use.

According to research from the communications provider, 750 of the 1,000 people asked had spent more on gadgets and gizmos than they had on home improvements in the past year, yet one in 20 have no idea how to use all the functions of their new technology.

An embarrassed 3% even admitted to breaking the products in their efforts to make them work, while just 25% said that they understood all of the basic functions on their digital TVs, broadband and mobile phones.

Only a quarter of people have got to grips with the most basic functions on their digital televisions, broadband services and mobile phones – leaving a wealth of functions undiscovered.

More than one in ten of over 55s are still relying on out of date video recorders and hi-fis bought years ago because they don’t understand the new, improved technology available.

Even the younger generation admits to being confused, with 10% of 16-24 years olds racing out to buy top-of-the-range MP3 players only to leave them unused because the instructions are too daunting.

Brits are not only wasting money on unused gadgets, but 17% also admit to overspending on their broadband, TV and phone services because they can’t be bothered to look for a better deal or are confused by the array of choices. An apathetic 4% can’t even remember which services they get from which providers.
