Times Backs Film Festival With Special Supplement

The Times will this month underline its sponsorship of London Film Festival with an exclusive supplement and DVD, creating a 68-page guide to the event and giving readers a taste of more than 20 films.

The special supplement, published in A5 format on Saturday 9 October, will feature interviews with major stars, actor and director profiles and full festival listings. Highlights of the guide will include an interview with movie star Jude Law and a piece by Julian Fellowes on his screenplay for Vanity Fair.

The supplement will be sponsored by Screen Select and will be available in copies of the newspaper distributed in London and the Southeast. The special FilmFirst DVD will also be available on 9 October, featuring exclusive clips, trailers and footage from the festival’s films such as Vera Drake, The Times Gala House of Flying Daggers and the closing night gala, I ♥ Huckabees.

In addition, the DVD will include two award-winning short films, Fishy and Mavis and The Mermaid, making it an “essential” collectable for festival fans. The DVD also features an interview with Sandra Hebron, artistic director of The Times bfi London Film Festival, who discusses the festival programme and how it was selected.

Commenting on the promotion James Christopher, chief film critic at The Times, said: “This year’s festival is not to be missed and The Times special festival supplement and DVD gives film fans the ultimate sneak preview. The breadth and depth of this year’s programme highlights the continued creative growth of the film industry from around the world. In its commitment to providing unrivalled film coverage, The Times is proud to be sponsor of the 48th London Film Festival.”

The Times has increased its coverage of film and cinema in recent months, launching a cross promotional campaign with film channel TCM and promoting its Film First screenings of the autumn’s most-anticipated movies. The newspaper currently sponsors TCM’s Thursday Night at The Movies programming strand as well as providing 50 pairs of tickets for each of its Film First screenings for TCM viewer competitions (see The Times Signs Movie Promotion Deal With TCM).
