Times Continues Online Revamp Strategy With Driving Overhaul

The Times has announced the latest move in its continuing review and revamping of its wide ranging online services, this time focusing on the website’s popular Driving section.

The redesign of the site will see it focusing more clearly on helping drivers to find and purchase their ideal car, new or used, via reviews from the newspaper’s high profile writers such as Jeremy Clarkson. The site will employ content from both The Times and The Sunday Times, as well as a selection of research tools and data sources.

Also due to be introduced is a new “Deal Exchange” service, created with The Sunday Times columnist, Jason Dawe. The service promises to provide users with access to large savings on new cars personally selected and sourced by Dawe, direct from franchised dealers.

Commenting on the site’s facelift and new features, Keith Blackmore, Times Online’s editorial director, said: “The re-launch of Driving sees continuing development of Times Online. Our Driving section is one of the strongest areas of the site. With a large archive of car reviews from writers such as Jeremy Clarkson, car research tools and our improved Car Locator, Driving is an invaluable resource for anyone thinking of buying a car.”

The move follows several similar updates to the Times Online website, last month saw a re-launch of the newspaper’s travel website as part of an ongoing update for the company’s entire network of internet sites (see Times Online Re-Launches Travel Website).

The Times recently launched its “Where its @ Times Online” marketing campaign, hoping to capitalise on its plethora of online offerings. The campaign encompasses all areas of the website and is the company’s first electronic brand marketing campaign incorporating banners, pop-ups and sky-scrapers (see Times Online Launches Brand Marketing Campaign).
