Times Online Boosts Site Users

ABCe Logo The Times‘ online offering recorded a 10.5% increase in visitors in June, overtaking the Sun‘s site to scoop second place behind Guardian Unlimited, according to figures from ABCe.

Times Online attracted 9.64 million unique users, compared to 8.73 million in May, a gain of 917,000 visitors.

Visitors to the Sun‘s website increased by 0.2% month on month in June, to just over 9 million unique users.

Times Online has been building traffic since its £10 million relaunch in March (see Newspapers’ Print Circulations Decline As Web Traffic Blossoms), which was followed by an initial dip in its figures. Prior to the new-look redesign the website had attracted 10 million unique users in January.

Telegraph.co.uk posted a month on month decrease in unique users of just over 3%, a loss of 221,991 visitors.

The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph website’s 7.053 million unique users is the lowest number of visitors since November last year.

Guardian Media Group’s Guardian Unlimited network of websites, which includes MediaGuardian.co.uk, saw a drop of 9.6% from 16.06 million unique users in May to 14.5 million in June.

Compared with June last year, both the Guardian and the Times‘ websites have added around two million unique users year on year.

In June 2006, GU recorded 12.2 million unique users, while Times Online attracted 7.74 million in the same month last year.

Neither the Sun or the Telegraph group have ABCe certified website statistics for June 2006.
