Times Partners With AirMiles For Travel Promotion

Times Newspapers is launching a national television campaign to promote its deal with The AirMiles Travel company, offering readers the chance to collect AirMiles tokens and exclusive deals on luxury holidays.

The deal will see readers of the Sunday Times and the Times offered AirMiles tokens in the newspapers from 10 October. These can be put towards luxury breaks to a choice of 12 destinations featured in both titles.

The promotion includes sponsorship by Airmiles of the Sunday Times guide to 20 Hip Cities, published with the paper on October 10. The 100-page glossy A5 guide is billed as the ultimate insider’s handbook to the world’s hotspots, ranging from Buenos Aires and Havana to Budapest and St. Petersburg.

Commenting on the partnership Andrew Mullins, marketing director at Times Newspapers, said: “Our partnership with The AirMiles Travel Company gives our readers enormous added value, not only does it allow us to extend our comprehensive travel coverage with a special guide to the hippest cities in the world, it gives our readers the opportunity to collect the miles they need to get there.”

Chris Jansen, managing director of The AirMiles Travel Company added: “We are really excited about this partnership, it is a great vehicle to showcase the breadth of travel on offer from The AirMiles Travel Company and remind people how easy it is to collect AirMiles. Just by buying a daily newspaper readers can boost or kickstart their AirMiles balances to put towards great travel offers.”

A cross media advertising campaign will support the promotion, covering television and radio from 8 October. The Times recently underlined its commitment to travel content, revamping its website and employing an electronic brand marketing campaign to raise awareness of the initiative (see Times Online Re-Launches Travel Website).

The Times has seen its circulation increase recently, rising by 2.4% year on year in the six months to August. The newspaper currently commands a total circulation of just over 654,000 while its Sunday sister title commands just over 1.3 million, a slip of 0.6% in the same period.
