Top Up TV To Begin Anytime Recording Service
Top Up TV has announced details of a new service with a digital video recorder, which allows recording of programmes that are downloaded overnight as well as regular Freeview channels.
The service has launched in part because Five are taking two of Top Up TV’s live daytime and evening channel streams to launch Five US and Five Life in the middle of October 2006 (see Five To Launch Two New Channels). This will leave Top Up TV with only two live daytime channel streams for their timeshared service.
In preparation for Top Up TV Anytime, channels on the old time-shared service have been reduced. For example, Bloomberg, Toonami, and Redhot have closed and UKTV Gold and TCM have already had their hours reduced.
The Top Up TV Anytime box will cost £209.99 including the first month of viewing, with an ongoing subscription of £9.99 a month. However, for a limited period, existing Top Up TV customers will be able to order the set-top box for £75 if they get a 12 month contract.
