Trinity Chairman To Step Down

Trinity Mirror Sir Victor Blank, chairman of Trinity Mirror has announced that he will be retiring from the Board at the company’s annual general meeting in May.

The outgoing chairman took up the position at the Mirror Group in July 1998, overseeing the merger between Trinity and the Mirror in 1999.

Commenting on his departure, Sly Bailey, chief executive of Trinity Mirror said: “Victor has made a huge contribution to the success of Trinity Mirror. He has been an outstanding chairman. It was Victor who cleared the way to create the UK’s largest newspaper publisher which commands more than 250 titles.”

Blank continued: “Media and newspaper publishing is a fascinating and challenging industry. Our newspapers are part of our heritage and the opportunities presented by emerging technologies are enormous.”

He added: “Trinity Mirror has the strategies in place to capture and exploit them. The management team I leave behind are first rate and are fully focused on the delivery of the options for growth.”

The end of last year saw Trinity appoint Richard Webb as the new managing director of Mirror Group Newspapers, with the position seeing him assume overall responsibility for the commercial functions of the company’s national titles, the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and The People (see Trinity Appoints New MD For National Newspapers).

The new role will see Webb taking responsibility for the newspapers’ advertising, marketing, circulation, strategic planning, business enterprises, digital and pre-press operations, reporting directly to Sly Bailey.
