Trinity Mirror Creates New Senior Advertising Roles

Mirror Group Newspapers has bolstered its advertising team with a number of senior appointments as part of an ongoing attempt to improve its relationship with agencies and clients.

The shake-up sees Malcolm Stoodley join the newspaper publisher in the newly created role of head of magazines. He moves over from chief executive Sly Bailey’s former employer IPC, where he was ad director of the IPC tx division.

IPC’s commercial team suffered another blow with the departure of its group promotions manager Suman Deol, to become head of the Daily Mirror‘s Ticket supplement, which provides news and information for the entertainment week ahead.

Meanwhile, Nigel Birch has left his role at Hachette Filipacchi, where he was commercial director, to become MGN’s regional ad director with responsibility for the Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin and Belfast offices.

MGN has also promoted Mike Allen from his role as sales controller to head of newspapers, with responsibility for all the national titles, including the Daily Record and the Sunday Mail. Allen has been with MGN for two years and was previously at News Corporation and Associated Newspapers.

Commenting on the raft of senior appointments, Clare Dove, MGN’s director of advertising, said: “What we’re doing is taking a great team and boosting it with the appointment of some genuine big-hitters.”

She added: “MGN is now attracting the industry’s finest advertising talent, and coupled with a new, simplified structure for the department, this means improved service, better interaction with agencies and a renewed focus on creating value for our clients.”

MGN recently announced the promotion of Dominic Carter to the newly created role of deputy director of advertising with immediate effect. The role saw Carter assume responsibility for the publisher’s portfolio of national titles, including the Daily Mirror, the Sunday Mirror and the People (see Mirror Names Carter As Deputy Director Of Advertising).
