VBS Confirms Bampton As New Managing Director

Viacom Brand Solutions has appointed Nick Bampton as its new managing director, replacing Paul Curtis, who left unexpectedly to join Sky Media.

Bampton, previously sales director at the multi-channel sales house, stepped up to fill in for Curtis on a temporary level last month. However, he will now take up the position on a full time basis following a successful three week trial period (see Sky Picks Curtis As New Advertising Sales Boss).

The new role will see Bampton assume responsibility for the day to day running of the brand focused sales house, which handles airtime for the MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and Paramount channels. He will report directly to Michiel Bakker, executive vice-president and managing director of MTV Networks, UK, Eire and Nordic (see Bampton Takes Temporary Charge Of Viacom).

Bakker said: “In the last few years, Nick has been instrumental in helping to turn VBS into the sales powerhouse it is today. He has helped to steer VBS through tremendous growth, consistently outpacing the multi-channel market, whilst gaining awards for outstanding creativity and innovation.”

Bampton added: “This is a very important time for Viacom Brand Solutions as we are in negotiations for 2005. We have a very strong team in place who will continue to develop new ideas and create innovative solutions for our clients and I am proud to be leading Viacom Brand Solutions into this most important period and beyond.”

Bampton started his television sales career at Thames TV in 1990 before moving to UK Gold as part of its launch team. He later worked on the launch of Channel Five in 1995, before setting up the broadcaster’s interactive division in 2000. He joined Viacom Brand Solutions as sales director the following year.
