Virgin Podcast Offers Clips The Stars Want Buried

Virgin Radio Logo Virgin Radio’s latest podcast could court controversy amongst several musicians, as its Best of the Guests programme offers clips of interviews never intended for broadcast.

Each free podcast, presented by DJ Ben Jones, will include out-takes from the station’s interviews of the week, as well as an excerpt from Virgin’s archives.

The first offering features Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl talking about his fear of boats and planes, and his love of waking up to Motorhead, while former Verve vocalist Richard Ashcroft can be heard conducting an interview while speeding along the Autobahn while late for a gig.

The first out-take from the station’s archives will be a previously unheard clip of Coldplay, revealing their true feelings towards the press prior to the release of their latest album, X&Y.

“The legendary Virgin Radio archives have some really amazing insights into the lives of the great and the good from the rock and pop scene,” said Ben Jones. “This podcast gives me the chance to dig out some of the best footage never meant to be aired. It’s this kind of exclusive material that podcasts are made for, and I’m thrilled to be bringing our millions of listeners even closer to the music they love.”

The tantalising offering is sure to have music fans in a tizzy, with the podcast going live via the Virgin Radio website from today.

The latest expansion of Virgin’s podcast services follows success for online versions of the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show, The Geoff Show and pub landlord Al Murray. Virgin’s podcasts do not carry music, due to licencing issues, but generate additional revenue for the station through included ‘Podverts’ (see Virgin Makes Podvertising First With Pete And Geoff).
