Virgin Unveils New Channel Logo

Virgin 1 Logo The logo for Virgin Media Television’s new entertainment channel, Virgin 1, has been unveiled, comprising a red number one figure emblazoned with the Virgin Logo.

The logo, conceived by directing duo Conkerco in collaboration with Andrew Fairhurst, will be used on-air and in marketing campaigns.

Jon King, head of marketing at Virgin Media TV, said: “We hope that we can engage viewers by giving them something that looks amazing but is also witty and a little bit out of the ordinary.”

Steve Lewis, Virgin 1’s creative director, said: “Rather than following the traditional agency route we have formed an unconventional collaboration between our creative team and the conkerco team, and we’re delighted to be working with the support of Academy films, renowned as the home of directing talent such as Jonathan Glazer.”

The new channel is an attempt by Virgin to combat the loss of Sky One, which disappeared from the Virgin platform when the two companies were unable to resolve a dispute over the pricing of the satellite broadcaster’s basic channel package (see Virgin Media And Sky: The Story So Far).

The Virgin Media CEO, Steve Burch, recently stepped down from the role, citing family and personal reasons (see Virgin Media CEO Steps Down).

Neil Berkett, chief operating officer, has taken over from Burch until a full-time replacement is found.
