A new report from eMarketer estimates that there will be 136.1 million Europeans online in the five largest European Union countries and advertisers will spend $7.5 billion to reach all Western Europeans, up 25% from $6.0 billion last year.
Emarketer says that internet use is growing strongly, with 45% of internet users in Europe going online every day and spending 11 hours and 20 minutes a week online, compared to 10 hours and 15 minutes per week in 2005.
Broadband penetration is also up. Western Europe leads the world by percentage of broadband subscribers, 27% compared to 24% in North America.
Alterian’s fourth transatlantic annual survey found that 85% of respondents expect their online direct marketing expenditures to increase in 2007, the largest expected increase since the Alterian Annual Survey began in 2003 (see Online To Be Main Marketing Spending Priority Of 2007).
