Yahoo! Unveils Voice Activated Mobile Search

Yahoo! Logo Yahoo! has unveiled a version of its mobile search service, oneSearch, which allows users to initiate faster searches using text or voice.

The new oneSearch 2.0 application, which will be rolled out before the end of June, claims to offer improved results relevance through richer, more detailed search results by including a predictive text application for common search queries.

Through a partnership with speech recognition company vlingo, oneSearch now carries a voice-enabled search feature that recognises a user’s voice performing open searches.

Yahoo! is also making the search application easier to access by previewing an idle screen search service that gives users one-click access to Yahoo! oneSearch and the internet.

“With the launch of Yahoo! oneSearch in 2007, we revolutionised mobile search by re-creating search specifically for the mobile phone, focusing on answers, not just web links,” said Marco Boerries, executive vice president, Connected Life, Yahoo!

“In just over a year, we signed 29 partnerships with carriers across the globe, covering more than 600 million consumers under contract. With Yahoo! oneSearch 2.0, we are fundamentally changing the way consumers use the internet on their mobile phones.”
