Direct mail expenditure in the UK has grown to £6.2 billion a year (in 1996), according to the latest survey by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA).

The Italian government has introduced legislation establishing a code of self-regulation for television broadcasting, under which the networks will try to protect minors by not running advertising for alcohol, contraceptives and sexually-oriented telephone lines between the hours of 16:00 and 19:00.
