The head of Rupert Murdoch’s News International, Gus Fischer, resigned last night unexpectedly. No explanation was given as to reasons for leaving, in a formal statement issued by News International. Press reports today however, suggest that the move was caused by a growing incompatibility with Murdoch.

Richard Dunn resigned last night as chief executive of Thames Television. His departure was expected after the appointment of Greg Dyke as chairman of Pearson Television, Thames’ parent company.

Radio Times is launching a major marketing campaign over Easter, which includes a competition in conjunction with Classic FM giving listeners the opportunity to win a 10,000 cruise from Burma to Rangoon. Reed Elsevier has today announced final results; pre-tax profits were up 16% on last year for the overall group. The UK section, which includes IPC Magazines, was up 12.4% year on year. Shares are up 26p today to 745p.
Total TV viewing is up by 2.9% for the week ending 5/3/95. This is up 2.9% on the same week last year, but down 1.7% on the previous week’s figures.
