The head of Rupert Murdoch’s News International, Gus Fischer, resigned last night unexpectedly. No explanation was given as to reasons for leaving, in a formal statement issued by News International. Press reports today however, suggest that the move was caused by a growing incompatibility with Murdoch.

Reed Elsevier has today announced final results; pre-tax profits were up 16% on last year for the overall group. The UK section, which includes IPC Magazines, was up 12.4% year on year. Shares are up 26p today to 745p.
