Signs that the Independent is likely to join the cost cutting price war are continuing, as the 35p trial in Birmingham which started last week is extended to the Independent on Sunday, which will drop to 90p. Nick Thompson, circulation manager said that the current price trials were very successful in increasing sales.
The Retail Prices Index for June, released today, showed inflation stable at 2.6%, for the third month running. Taking 1985 as the base rate June’s RPI was 152.9, no change at all on May’s figure.
The combined TV revenue figure for June, based on agency estimates came in at £155.57m, an increase of 8.8% on last June’s figure. The ITV share was £122.9m, with Channel 4 at £32.67m.
