Videotron, the Canadian owned cable television company has offered free off-peak calls to residential customers.The offer will be limited to calls among Videotron customers in the inner London and Hampshire franchise areas. At present the company has only 32,000 residential subscribers but expects the free call offer will encourage a rapid switch from BT.

The Rank Organisation has announced annual pre-tax profits of £276.6m. Film and television’s input rose 62% from £22m to £35.7m. This increase was attributed to improved profitability in film processing.Admissions to Odeon cinemas rose by 10%, largely because of Jurassic Park. Rank were unable to increase admission prices because of strong competition.
