Italian advertising revenues this year should rise 7-8 per cent in real terms, fuelled by expansionary drives by telecoms companies, banks, financial services and other consumer firms.
The Commission’s proposal to create an “international charter” aimed at promoting freer electronic trade and commerce has been welcomed by the Information Society Forum, a group of users, social groups, service providers and equipment manufacturers.
Newspaper advertising revenues rose by 7.3 per cent in the first three months of this year according to the Newspaper Association of America. Total newspaper advertising revenues were $9.6 billion in the first quarter, against $9 billion for the same period in 1997.
More than $10 billion a year will be spent globally for on-line or electronic gambling by the year 2002, according to the market research agency Datamonitor. On-line gambling revenues are expected to reach $535 million in 1998.
