Mike Ironside, ad controller of the Daily Mail has been promoted to ad director. He replaces Guy Zitter, who has now taken over as managing director from Bill Pressey. Sue Minnikin has been promoted to sales controller, John Teal becomes agency ad manager and Maxine Rose becomes client ad manager.

Reed Elsevier is buying Mead Data Central for $1.5bn. The Anglo-Dutch publishing house said that the purchase would be financed with the help of £1bn worth of new dollar borrowings. Chairman Pierre Vinken said, “The acquisition is a perfect fit for Reed Elsevier”.
BSkyB has announced that it is to create up to 1,000 new jobs at a new centre in Dunfermline, Fife. The £10m plan has been announced this morning by Ian Lang, Scottish Secretary. The new centre will be a customer services centre for subscribers.
Mirror Group Newspapers has lifted its stake in Scottish Television by 5% to 19.99%; this is the maximum it is allowed to hold under current media cross-ownership rules.
