The 1997 industry census of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) shows that there were 12,700 people at 206 IPA member agencies at the end of 1997, a small decrease compared to the previous year. The survey also showed that 82% of all agency staff are under the age of 40.

Admissions to the cinema in the UK in the first three months of 1998 are the highest for 26 years according to the Cinema Advertising Association. Between January-March 41.26 million people visited the cinema, a 22.6 per cent increase over the same period the year before.
Commercial radio audiences in the UK have expanded in the past year. According to the Radio Advertising Bureau, commercial radio’s audience share has grown to 50.1 per cent of the total market.
