News Corporation yesterday announced an increase in profits in the year ending June 1993. Pre-tax profits for the group were A$1.16 billion, compared with A$622.4m in 1992. Sunset Radio, after being forced to stop transmission last week by National Transcommunications Limited, is back on air. (Newsline – 19/8)The Manchester soul station had defaulted on payments for transmission services, but has now agreed to pay all fees in advance to NTL until 24 October when the contract will end by mutual agreement.

Linford Christie’s winning run in the 100m final at Stuttgart on 15 August boosted BBC1’s ratings to 11.5m viewers.This was the highest audience for any single BBC1 programme in its week except for Eastenders. During that week BBC1 claimed 33.2% of the total television audience, with ITV’s share dropping to 36.8% from over 40%.
