ITV has successfully pitched against Sky, and three other rival channels, to acquire the UK television rights to the Rugby World Cup in September 2011, and the tournament in England in 2015.

BSkyB has bought the exclusive rights to the entire HBO TV catalogue. This includes a range of American shows, including The Sopranos, Sex and the City, True Blood and The Wire.

BSkyB has reported an 11% increase in revenues to £5.9 billion in the three months to June. Its operating profits also rose, 10% year-on-year to £855 million.
