Rupert Murdoch, speaking at the World Economic Forum has said that the rising cost of paper could spark an increase in the price of UK newspapers, marking an end to the long-running price war. He told the Forum that in the last three months the price of paper had gone up by 30-40%.

Adscene Group, the Kent based regional newspaper group has announced results today for the six months to November 26. Pre-tax profits are up 50.4% from £1.41m last year to £2.12m. Adscene said that advertising revenue is looking healthy, and during the period concerned it spent £5.6m on expansion.

British Transport Advertising has signed a sponsorship deal with the Royal College of Art, worth £375,000. BTA has donated poster sites worth £375,000. The ITC has released the latest cable telephony figures; another 147,000 telephone lines were installed by the UK cable industry over the last quarter. The number of exchange lines grew from 314,000 to 717,000 during 1994. There are now 63 cable franchises which also provide telephony, compared to 43 in January 1994.
